Ahh the Art of Mindfulness

We spent the 4th of July weekend with family and enjoying the outdoors. One of those days we went out to have lunch and then decided to take a stroll at one of the most picturesque towns in Vermont. As we were strolling down the street going in and out of all the little stores, we went into the cutest little book store.

As always, I go in with the intention to just browse and then walk back out but the truth is that it is quite an impossible task, and I am ok with that fact. I always come out with at least a little bag!

This time around I bought a couple of books, not to worry, I didn’t get carried away (just three books). One of the books is called ‘Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet’ by Thich Nhat Hanh.

I am only half way through the book now but I wanted to share some lines that have resonated with me so far.

In the second part of the book, Thich talks about ‘The Meditator, the Artist, and the Warrior’ he believes that in everyone of us the three coexist. The meditator, the yogi which helps us in brining calm and awareness into our daily lives as well as the insights to becoming better human beings. The artist, that allows us to create and with this creativity make it easier to practice mindfulness. ‘Practicing mindfulness can always be healing and nourishing, if we know how to be creative.’ Last but not least the warrior within us that allows us to overcome any hardships or struggles.

Remembering that we possess those three qualities within us is a great way to start and end the day and know that we have tools that we can use in our daily lives. Whether at work, at home, with your family or with your friends, it all boils down to a balance that lies within. If you get a chance to read the book, let me know your thoughts.
