Not just another novel
When a friend recommends you a book, and it turns out to be so beautiful…
My friend and meditation teacher colleague recommended this book and I loved it. I finished reading this book back in April, but I hadn’t had a chance to add it here.
I had only read poems written by Rumi, but I didn’t know too much about his background. The story in the book takes place in the present time, but it manages to take you to a land and a time that I usually do not think about very much.
I also learned about Rumi’s spiritual teacher, Shamsi Tabrizi. Now I’m going to have to get some books on him!
That is how the world of books takes you by the hand and not only shows you different places, but you get to meet all the minds that have devoted their words on to the pages of these books. Just beautifully fascinating. 🙂
I leave you with one of the 40 rules of love …
” If you want to change the way others treat you, you should first change the way you treat yourself. Unless you learn to love yourself, fully and sincerely, there is no way you can be loved. Once you achieve that stage, however, be thankful for every thorn that others might throw at you. It is a sign that you will soon be showered in roses.” from the book Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak.
